Ex-library with bookplate and three stamps in text, pages 124, 181, 477. Rubbed at top and tail of spine and corners, slightly frayed. Top edges untrimmed and partially unopened. A fair copy. Volume one only, the title-page bears the explanation 'This volume is complete in itself, but a SECOND VOLUME has been published, containing the Author's Travels in the East in 1855-56, 1859-60 (on the latter occasion with the late Mrs. Gadsby), with Illustrations of about 2,000 additional Passages of Scripture, many engravings on wood, Incidents of Travel, Anecdotes, etc.' £30.

Titling worn and with light string mark to spine. Some light marks to lower edge of top board. Small piece chipped out of right edge of top board. Front and back pastedowns neatly signed by a former owner. Edges slightly dusty with age. Endpapers slightly browned. Occasional light foxing. Otherwise a very good clean copy. £75.
